Today they wrote an article about eight pedophile cases being investigated in Norway. Important news and that’s not the problem. The issue is with the illustration they use on the front page. You may see the screendump yourself here if you dare… I have almost grown up on the net, and I have seen most of the good and bad it has to offers during the years. In that way the images shown should not be that horrifying compared to people getting their brains blown out or suicides and what not, however when Norway’s second largest news site uses this types of images as illustrations I feel my stomach turning in cramps!
And this site was named the “Webpage of the year” (Article at MBL). I’m almost speechless.

Dagbladet.no has tried a lot. They have also been very innovative over the last years. We all remember Blink. At least I do… Anyhow, they have also done a great job with their commenting functions and that type of moderation, if it could be called moderation. Some journalists have also answered their readers in the commenting sections leading to great discussions. Most notably the “Elden and friends on Facebook” article.
However, now they have also included a Track back function on some of their articles. Do not get me wrong here. I do live by “Sharing is caring”, and diverting traffic to other great recourses is splendid. However, where does this leave Dagbladet.no?
Is it an Elephant wanting to be a Giraffe? (Newspaper wanting to be a Blog). I’m all in on being innovative as online newspapers, but seriously come on! You could do better!
