Singapore scam?

Tag: Generalchristoph @ 12:26 am

Usually I don’t pay any attention to scam-mails, nor do I even read them when I spot them slip by my spam-filter. Tonight however I decided to take a look and have a laugh of the spelling errors that usually occur.

Blink.no has been re-launched

Frustration

The Norwegian community and social network site “Blink.no” has been re-launched and redesigned. Back in the days I had an account and logged in perhaps twice and I haven’t used that account for about 3 or 4 years.

Today I decided to test it and to have a look at what they have done in comparison to other social networking sites. However that seemed to be a quite exhausting task.

Since I already knew that my usual username on sites was taken I tried to make a new account. However ALL usernames seems to have been taken. All the first letters in my first name from 3 to 8 was taken, my old alias was of course taken. When I tried 5-6 other aliases they or variations of them was taken . All I was proposed was horrible usernames that could have been passwords. Since I don’t want to end up with usernames as “Chunkylover53” I decided to have another go of retrieving the password from my old account. When I did that I received a message that it wasn’t possible. Just not possible… (image below)

Just not possible

Dagbladet, who owns Blink, Start.no and so on have a single sign on system that have been working for ages. And I just can’t understand what the hell they are thinking over at Dagbladet. Re-launch a site where you can’t retrieve your password OR register a user with some sort of normal username. Instead of doing a rework of your services, why don’t you fix your single sign on? I also have this problem when trying to interact in the message board of my favorite cartoonist Mads Eriksen. His message board is also linked to that single sign on system.

SEO and the Porn industry

Tag: Generalchristoph @ 4:15 pm

Here is a link to a rather interesting blogpost at SeoMoz and debate that a colleague sent me today. The topic is SEO in the porn industry. They obviously have many great people doing it but no one admit working for them.

Door-Key Technology, fancy product TERRIBLE website!

Tag: Generalchristoph @ 5:04 pm

doorkey technologies web site

Today I stumbled upon a product called Door-Key. The idea is quite simple. You install a switch with a GSM phone in it and you have yourself a lock. To open the door, just call the lock from an authenticated number and the lock opens. They also present some other areas for work as temperature readings and so on.
What gets to me is that it’s all administrated by SMS. That has to be incredibly hard to work with when you are going to give, let’s say, 100 persons access to that lock. Imagine yourself after sending 100 sms’s to your lock saying “puh, only 3 more doors…”
I am quite sure there is a far better way to administer this. However, their website is so terrible there are absolutely no technical information other then how to use it, as a user. That’s what happens when you base your entire site on flash. Your site becomes terrible in terms of information since you focus on eye-candy and fancy flash movies.
